Water Safety
Water safety is crucial both at home and in the pool, especially for infants and young children. At home, never leave your child alone in the bathtub, even for a moment, as drownings can happen in just a few inches of water. Bath seats are not safety devices and can tip over, so always supervise closely. Empty water from containers like pails and buckets immediately after use, keep bathroom doors closed with locks or doorknob covers, and secure toilet lids with latches. At the pool, an adult should actively supervise children at all times. For infants and toddlers, this means being in the water and within arm’s reach ("touch supervision"), while older children still require constant, undistracted attention. The supervising adult should always know how to swim.
